Hello, Nico here
I grew up just outside Naples in Italy in a home with a large garden. My mother and my older sisters were the designated gardeners. They created a space that was verdant and full of interest. The temperate climate did help! I was the youngest and I still remember joining in with the upkeep and propagation of plants as well as the never ending chore of watering in the evening during the summer months. The memories of the warmer May evenings and the smell of roses in the air lingers in my mind still. I can often be found in rose gardens early June in London chasing that feeling.
Plant swapping was a thing! I remember whenever we visited friends or relatives my mum would always ask for cuttings of suitable plants. Conversely the same ritual took place when we received visitors. Seeds were harvested when ready and stored for the following year. Repotting plants in spring was a real event and I still remember how intrigued I was by the root systems of the potted plants.
Thanks to the favourable weather we use to spend entire summer days outdoors under the grape vine pergola surrounded by beautiful plants growing in the ground and pots. We had a long rectangular table and lunch and dinner was almost always consumed outdoors. Family gatherings were real events and as kids when we gathered my mother used to get crossed with us because we played ball games and spoilt her plants as well as breaking the odd pot!
In London I have always lived in homes with outdoor space and I have always been surrounded by plants. Having had a rewarding career as a chef, I have then decided to cultivate my other passion; Gardening.
I have studied Garden Design at Capel Manor College in Regents Park, London where I have learned Horticulture as well as Garden Design. Regents Park was our playground and I loved every minute of it. Plus there is an amazing rose garden!
